Roy Dale Cox
Growing up in Birmingham, Alabama, Roy Dale developed a deep connection to social justice, regularly visiting inmates in Birmingham Jail—a site where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. famously scribed a letter on toilet paper during his imprisonment for leading non-violent civil rights demonstrations. Roy Dale’s appointment at the Institute for Justice and Opportunity feels providential given his background.
With a B.A. in Political Science and Theatre from Appalachian State University, Roy Dale proudly represented his graduating class as commencement speaker. His diverse professional journey includes pivotal roles in high-profile campaigns and organizations. He provided strategic fundraising support during the 2020 Biden/Harris Presidential Campaign and for the Philadelphia Orchestra, navigating challenges during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Roy Dale’s experience extends to the arts sector, where he served as Assistant Campaign Manager for both Broadway and off-Broadway theatres at The Manhattan Theatre Club. Additionally, he managed the annual fund for A Better Chance, a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing transformative educational opportunities to talented students of color.
As Manager of Development, Roy Dale spearheads targeted outreach, ensures the completion of grants and proposals, and leads content creation efforts to engage key stakeholders and potential funders. He’s excited to merge his fundraising acumen with his creativity to advance the mission of the Institute.
