Keynote speaker Dr. Todd Clear, Provost Rutgers University-Newark presents his research “Predicting Crime through Incarceration: The Impact of Rates of Prison Cycling on Rates of Crime in Communities.” His groundbreaking report explores the question of whether the effects of mass incarceration increases rather than decreases neighborhood crime rates. Dr. Clear is joined in this discussion by Julio Medina, City Councilmember Jumaane Williams, Kate Rubin, and moderator Kevin Barnes-Ceeney.

PRI is seeking a full-time Research Analyst for a newly created position to design and implement a data gathering, analysis and reporting capacity that supports our rapidly expanding Educational Initiatives (EI). In addition to PRI’s direct service programs, this will include data collection from the College-in-Prison Reentry Initiative, a five-year project to increase the number of people enrolled in college in prison funded by the District Attorney of New York (DANY) as part of their Criminal Justice Investment Initiative (CJII). The Prisoner Reentry Institute (PRI) at John Jay College of Criminal Justice is recruiting a full-time Senior Policy Associate to assist our work to improve policy and practice affecting people with criminal records, with a special focus on housing. The Senior Policy Associate will work with PRI’s Policy Director to reform housing policies that impact individuals with criminal records, including changing policies of housing providers, developing subsidized housing resources for individuals with criminal records, and working to ban unfair housing discrimination. Dr. Wakefield is followed by commentary and discussion by a distinguished panel of experts including Jean Kjellstrand, Tanisha Douglas, Tanya Krupat, and Deborah Sills Iarussi.
The Prisoner Reentry Institute (PRI) at John Jay College of Criminal Justice is seeking a full-time Administrative Associate to provide programmatic and administrative support for the NYC Justice Corps, a multi-site initiative connecting young adults involved with the criminal justice system to leadership, educational and professional opportunity, and fostering community development in neighborhoods with high rates of poverty and crime. The Administrative Associate will conduct contract administration and compliance activities, tracking key program operations and reporting on program data. The ideal candidate will have strong analytic skills, experience with databases, and excellent written and oral communication skills. The Prisoner Reentry Institute has three internship tracks for undergraduate and graduate students: credit-bearing internships, unpaid internships, and Federal Work Study placements. Our interns conduct research, manage our correspondence program, assist with academic counseling and academic planning, attend conferences and a host of other tasks relevant to their reentry interests. PRI is not accepting internship applications at this time.
