Tech 101

People who have been involved in the criminal legal system face a changed world, and an economy that demands new skills, as they return to their communities. The internet is critical to nearly all business operations today, but many incarcerated people have never used it. According to a 2013 study, only 22% of Americans in prison have used a computer.

The lack of a foundation in technology is among the biggest barriers to successful reentry. Without fundamental skills, previously incarcerated individuals are unable to apply for a job, let alone thrive in a role that requires extensive use of technology. Tech 101 is an entry-level course that helps people who have been involved with the criminal legal system develop the skills, and the confidence, they need to compete in today’s job market and pursue higher education.

Tech 101: Introduction to Technology for the Workplace

Participants learn technology fundamentals, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite, email basics, and online job searching. The 12-session course is free, and students are provided with notebook computers for use during class.
