We collaborate with partners throughout the City University of New York (CUNY) who engage and support students who have been involved in the criminal legal system. Over the course of the 2018-2019 academic year, the Institute embarked on a project to map CUNY’s resources for students with past system involvement. The initiative became known as the CUNY Mapping Project.
CUNY Mapping Project Objectives
- Identify and acknowledge our colleagues who engage and support students impacted by the criminal legal system.
- Define roles that complement rather than compete with one another.
- Elevate the university’s work by defining a better-integrated, more comprehensive system of outreach and engagement that supports students from matriculation through graduation.
A report on the CUNY Mapping Project will be available shortly. The Institute will use the findings to foster a more welcoming environment across the university system—one that supports the enrollment, retention, graduation, and post-college employment success of students with past criminal legal system involvement.
