Gerald Maitre, LMSW, Ed.D

Gerald Maitre, Ed.D., LMSW, is a dedicated professional who joined the Institute in November 2021 as the Deputy Director of Programs. With a rich background in social work and education, Dr. Maitre brings over ten years of experience in the social service sector, working with families and individuals to create positive impacts.

Prior to his current role, Dr. Maitre served as the Director of CUNY EDGE at Kingsborough Community College, where he played a key role in empowering predominantly single mothers on public assistance to achieve higher education goals. Before that, he held a leadership position at the Black Male Initiative, focusing on addressing challenges faced by black males in educational and societal settings.

Dr. Maître’s extensive experience includes impactful roles at Administration for Children Services, SCO Family Service, and Mercy First. In these positions, he contributed to the well-being of vulnerable individuals, working to strengthen families and create lasting positive change. As the Deputy Director of Programs, Dr. Maitre oversees the Institute’s services to students, ensuring overall program quality and impact. He is known for his supportive and authentic approach, thriving on helping individuals and organizations fulfill their goals. His philosophy on life is rooted in his love and passion for assisting individuals to become the best versions of themselves. Dr. Maitre holds a B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Behavior Science, an M.S. in Social Work (LMSW | SIFI), and an Ed.D. in Leadership.
