SUMMARY:Just Prosecution: Redefining the Role of the 21st Century Prosecutor in Youth Justice Reform
DESCRIPTION:Prosecutors are arguably the most important actors in the criminal justice system. They decide who to charge\, what to charge\, which cases will be diverted\, which deals to offer and which cases proceed to trial. Yet\, our conversations on mass incarceration and youth justice reform have largely centered on policing tactics and sentencing laws with limited attention drawn to the power of prosecutors to determine case outcomes in ways most other criminal justice actors cannot. \nHowever\, a recent wave of reform minded prosecutors taking office in cities like Chicago\, Houston\, Philadelphia\, New York City and elsewhere has ignited a national discussion on the critical role prosecutors can play in effectuating sustainable change that will make our communities safer and our criminal justice system fairer. \nJoin us  to learn how progressive prosecutors are using evidence based strategies to advance innovative practices in the prosecution of young people and explore opportunities for collaboration between prosecutors and advocated work to reform youth justice. \nJoin us:\nNovember 14\, 2018\n12:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. \nJohn Jay College of Criminal Justice\nStudent Dining Hall\n524 West 59th Street\nNew York\, NY 10019 \nRegistration is now closed. \n  \n
